How to Avoid a Space Conflict: Mitigating Factors and Protocols
Every day, people are working together in space more and more—and that’s a good thing! Having multiple countries and corporations working together to make space travel safer, faster, and cheaper makes it possible to create things like satellite internet, which may someday help people all around the world have access to the same internet services as people in developed countries. But when so many people are in such close proximity to each other in space, how can we make sure there aren’t any conflicts? By being aware of the factors that can cause space conflicts and learning how to avoid them!
Key factors to consider when deciding on personal space
When deciding how much personal space is appropriate for you, consider the following factors. These may vary depending on the situation.
-The type of activity you are engaged in -The physical distance between you and others in the room or at a conference table -Whether or not you feel comfortable moving closer or farther away from others in order to reduce your personal space needs
Key factors that contribute toward determining social standing in class
The primary factors that determine social standing in class are race, gender, socioeconomic status, physical appearance, and extroversion.
Socioeconomic status is determined by how much money the family makes; if they make less than $30,000 annually then they have low socioeconomic status. Gender is determined by whether or not the student is male or female; which is usually based on their sex assigned at birth.
Maintaining personal boundaries
It's important not to be too lenient with your personal boundaries. You're in charge of your own body, and no one should feel entitled to touch you without your consent. Keep this in mind when working with other people, or sharing space with others.
If someone is violating your personal space, try giving them verbal feedback by telling them that they are invading your boundaries. If the violation persists, it might be time to remove yourself from the situation.
Dealing with personal conflict
Conflict is inevitable, but it is important that we take measures to help diffuse tension. When you are faced with conflict, the best thing you can do is try your hardest not to make assumptions or judgments on the person who caused the problem in the first place. Instead of trying to come up with solutions right away, take a step back and try taking in what they said. This will give you time to think about how you want to respond without being defensive or volatile.
Dealing with social conflicts
People are bound to have disagreements with one another. The key is knowing how to handle these conflicts in the best way possible. If people approach conflict in the right manner, they can make it easier on themselves and those around them.
Conflicts are bound to happen, but we can reduce the chance of conflict by staying away from certain situations and by communicating with others respectfully.
Exiting & Entering The Room
If you are leaving the room, please check with everyone else in the room before shutting the door. If someone is about to come into the room, hold the door open for them. When you are entering the room, be aware of people who might be in your way or coming out of another room. Slow down when approaching doors or hallways.
